Thanksgiving Menu

It’s that time! Time to make the grocery list. Then spend $250 on one meal. Then try to figure out where to put all this food. Then swear I will scale it down next year.

Here’s what’s on our menu, with links where possible.

Roasted Turkey
Grandma’s Dressing (no real recipe for that. Celery, onions, bread, sage… the usual)
Mashed Potatoes
Sweet Potato Casserole
Butternut Squash Puree
Brussel Sprouts with Balsamic and Cranberries (trying for the first time this year)
French Bread Rolls
Pumpkin Pie

What are YOU having? Who does the cooking in your family? Cody (16) will be preparing our meal this year. Yay for me. I will help, of course. I’m a do-er. :)

Meat Stuffing (ground pork, beef, bread, sage, celery, onion, melted butter etc.) its like stuffing the bird with a meatloaf.
    Sweet Potatoes mashed with butter
    Brussel Sprouts swimming in butter
    Broccoli- butter
Cauliflower w/cheese sauce made with butter
    Corn / buttered
Cranberry Sauce shaped like the can.
Pumpkin Pie / Apple Pie/ Pumpkin Cheesecake from Costco!!!
Baby Aspirin to ward of heart attack.

I make the Thanksgiving dinner with a little help from my family. The turkey and turkey breast will be made on Wednesday. To make it on Thursday is to much work for one day so I make the turkey early. Stuffing is an old family sage recipe. I am making a few things different this year also. A mashed sweet potato praline casserol, usually I have fried yams and a cranberry walnut casserol, usually get the jellied cans of cranberry. The rest is the same, mashed potatoes, brussel sprouts, corn, relish tra y, bread. My son and his wife ar aoming this year, theyaalternate between us and her family, so this year it’s our turn to have them, so very much looking forward to it. And my other son and his girfiend come too. So je 6 of us.

I try to vary the menu, but when I do someone complains, so it’s the same thing (almost) every year.

    Roast Turkey
    Mashed potatoes & homemade gravy
    Sage stuffing
    Green bean casserole
    Sweet potatoes mashed with butter
Roasted brussel sprouts (my one ‘new’ thing this year)
    Red cabbage
    Homemade cranberry & apple sauce
Resort fruit salad – strawberries, pineapple, bananas, oranges in a citrus sauce
Two kinds of dinner rolls (potato rolls and Chicago hard rolls)
Apple Crumb pie with vanilla ice cream
Pumpkin Pie with whipped cream (homemade)

And I’ll do it all myself. Thank you very much.

Good Lord, Brenda. LOL This year it’s just the 4 of us, and my parents, so we’re scaling back to some degree. And we are having the turkey breast, ham, dressing, and gravy catered in, along with a pumpkin & pecan pie. I’m making my sweet potato casserole, and Bill is making mashed potatoes and dinner rolls. Mom and Dad will do the cranberry relish, cherry salad, appetizer trays, etc. Mmmmm, can’t wait!
